The Commission under the Ministry of Health of Ukraine held a competition for the position of Chief Physician of the National Children’s Specialized Hospital (NDSB) "Okhmatdet". Of the nine participants, only four were admitted to the interview - two representatives of the current hospital management, the former head of the district health department in Kiev, as well as the former chief physician of the Crimean Center for HIV and AIDS Prevention. However, none of the four contenders was recognized by the commission as worthy of becoming the country’s chief pediatrician. The Ministry of Health considered the candidates either "frankly weak or dishonest" and promised to announce the competition again at the end of March.
On March 20, the commission at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in the framework of the competitive selection heard presentations of candidates for the post of chief physician of NDSB "Okhmatdet".
“Nine candidates applied to us during the competition. Only four of them reached the interview level and presented their vision of the development of Okhmatdet Hospital. We listened to the vision of each of the four candidates - Dmitry Vernigora, Oleg Zalata, Tatiana Ivanova and Raisa Mostovenko. We in the commission came to a consensus that none of these candidates is worthy to take the place of the chief physician of the National Children’s Specialized Hospital "Okhmatdet", - said during the meeting. Minister of Health of Ukraine, head of the tender commission Ulyana Suprun.
According to her, a new competitive selection will be announced following the next meeting, which will take place in a week. It is possible that the commission will decide on the requirements for applicants.
We need a special candidate who has a clear vision of the future of the hospital, which will change the philosophy of "Okhmatdet". There was no such person at this stage, so in a week our commission will meet again to announce a new competition. We will also decide whether changes to the requirements for candidates will be necessary. We are looking for a really worthy leader. And he does not have to be from Kiev - he can be from any corner of Ukraine. But this must be a person who wants to change the system, to change this hospital. And this competition will be held transparently, openly and without corruption ", - assured the acting Minister of Health.

Prior to that, he worked as the Chief Physician of the LV Gromashevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (2015-2016), Head of the Health Department of the Desnyanskaya RGA of Kyiv (2012-2015), Chief Specialist of the Adult Medical Care Department to the population of the Department of Health of Desnyanskaya RGA (2012), Deputy Chief Physician of the State Enterprise "International Children’s Center" Artek "(2010-2012). Until 2010 he worked in private structures and clinics in the capital.
In 2014-2015, Oleg Zalata worked as the chief physician of the LV Gromashevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. In 2005-2014 - Chief Physician of the Crimean Republican Institution "Center for Prevention and Control of HIV / AIDS". 2004-2005 - Deputy Head of the Department of Prevention of Infectious and Socially Unsafe Diseases of the Department of State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, before that in 1993-2004 he headed the Center for HIV / AIDS Prevention and Control.
