Adult charity: who helps people over 18?

Despite the large number of charitable foundations and organizations currently existing in Ukraine, our society is still learning to help. And for the most part, this help only applies to children. And how to be an adult? Who to contact?

This question was asked by a young woman from Kyiv and an enterprising girl Victoria Dubrovska, when in the spring of 2017 her father was diagnosed with stage 4 oncology.

- It was very scary, and after the fear came shock and despair that we had no one to turn to for help. It turned out that there is a huge problem of adult philanthropy in Ukraine - if you are a seriously ill adult, you can only hope for yourself and your loved ones. In our case, the money ran out after just three months of treatment. Then I had to borrow, borrow, open loans… We had to act. Then I remembered my student dream with my friend Olena Fedorenko - a flea market, where the money could be used to help someone. This is the case when the realization of a dream came true not just a desire, but a vital necessity. In general, we were able to extend my father’s life for a year and a half. During this time of forced acquaintance with the problems of adult cancer patients, I realized that I will continue to engage in charitable activities and somehow help such people. In March 2018, it began its activitiesSVETR is a charity clothing store, where anyone can donate their unnecessary clothes and buy something in the Instagram store for a symbolic price. Proceeds from the sale of clothing go to the purchase of drugs that are not on the national register, but which are surprisingly needed by adult patients. We officially transfer the purchased drugs to the balance of the Kyiv City Clinical Oncology Center in the form of charitable assistance. During the existence of "SVETR" managed to make purchases of 30 thousand hryvnias - says Victoria.
Previously, Victoria Dubrovska worked in the Anti-Corruption Council under the Kyiv Mayor and engaged in public activities, and Olena Fedorenko worked in a marketing company. Currently, they are the founding coordinators of the charity fund and SVETR is its core, which allows to help adults with cancer. In their small, but creative and efficient team, they already have well-known like-minded people - Rimma Zubina and Olga Sumska. Also, the girls, with the support of doctors from the Kyiv City Clinical Oncology Center, are engaged in educational activities and help solve problems for adult critically ill patients.

The Fund also learned about funds whose activities are aimed at targeted assistance to the adult population of our country.

Helpus
is an adult aid fund."The Helpus team is a group of people who want to help their neighbors. Many years ago we created the site "Children of Zaporozhye", the purpose of which was to help orphans. Later, the Zaporizhia Regional Charitable Foundation "Happy Child" appeared, which provides systematic assistance to orphans, sick children, large and crisis families, boarding schools and children’s hospitals in the Zaporizhia region. Over the years, the foundation has provided assistance to dozens of children. But also dozens of people we had to refuse. Because they are adults. And we, as a "children’s fund" could not help them. And could not even advise where to go. Because there are practically no funds that help adults in Ukraine. One day a call rang in the office of the Happy Child Children’s Charitable Foundation. A young man with cancer spoke about his only chance at life - a bone marrow transplant, worth tens of thousands of dollars. Due to the fact that our foundation, like hundreds of other Ukrainian foundations, provides assistance only to children, we could not help this person. What’s more, we haven’t even been able to suggest any fund that can help an adult in this situation. "So what should I do, die?" there was a desperate voice in the receiver. We didn’t know what to say to this man. Such calls were heard in our fund very often. Hundreds of adults with cerebral palsy, oncology and heart disease asked for help. But the majority of such people died or barely survived without receiving any help from society. We could no longer stay away from the problems of adults - so the project "Helpus", and later the fund, "- says the chairman of the fund Albert Pavlov.

HELPGROUP is the All-Ukrainian Charitable Fund for Aid and Development. They say about themselves: “The foundation was founded by friends who tried to save lives. We united when we learned that our loved one had been diagnosed with oncology. The disease was very rapid. Complications of the disease forced him to go to an Israeli clinic, where they agreed to seek treatment on the condition of a sum of $ 100,000. When we started the treatment meeting, we thought about opening a charity fund that could officially raise funds, on behalf of which we could apply for assistance and organization of charity concerts, installation of charity boxes and other fundraising events. This was the decision made in the formation and opening of the All-Ukrainian Charitable Foundation named after Maria Govorova, for which funds were raised for treatment. Initially, we did not plan to carry out the activities of the fund in the future and did not think about it, because the purpose of opening the fund at that time was to raise the necessary amount for the treatment of a loved one. Having established our fund, we could be sure that all the funds raised went to their intended purpose. It so happened that the disease won, and a person close to us was gone. During the fundraiser we did a lot of work on organizing concerts, competitions, informational appearances in television and print media, we established relations with government agencies, students, volunteers and other public organizations and associations. Other patients began to turn to the charity fund, to whom we were no longer able to refuse to raise funds and information about treatment in Ukraine and Israel. We decided to keep the organization, renaming the fund into the All-Ukrainian Charitable Fund for Assistance and Development "HELPGROUP". In memory of a loved one who was fair, honest and responsive, WBF "HELPGROUP" follows the same qualities and rules. "

"Let’s help"- International Charitable Foundation. The Let’s Help International Charitable Foundation was established in 2015 and helps sick people, children, the elderly and animals.

Also, targeted assistance projects not only for children but also for adults can be found on the website of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange. Some foundations, operators of assistance to the Ukrainian Charity Exchange, go to the meeting and take projects to help adults, until full implementation on the UBB website. Thus, helping people over 18 years.
