Agreement on the Protection of World Oceans

The UN member countries approved the historic agreement on the protection of the world oceans. 30% of the ocean waters will be under protection by 2030.

We are talking about international ocean waters outside state borders. The document provides for the creation of marine protected areas. By 2030, a third of all international waters will be under protection, while now - only 1.2 percent of the ocean. There will be restrictions on fishing, shipping routes and mining in the protected areas. Basic rules for conducting environmental impact assessments of commercial activities in the oceans will also be established.

Ukraine is currently experiencing large-scale environmental damage due to the impact of the war and is at risk of a significant decrease in biodiversity, including in the Black Sea. The social responsibility of businesses is particularly related to the contribution to the improvement of the environment and will be even more relevant during the restoration and preservation of Ukrainian ecosystems.

Environmental responsibility can become one of the key points in the CSR program for companies and be a competitive advantage among other businesses, because more and more consumers prefer companies that take measures to minimize damage to the environment.
