Life presents us with trials so that we can hear it.
Hearing is an integral part of our lives. The colors of this world are impossible to imagine in full without all sorts of whistles, ringing, clattering, rustling, trilling. Alas, there are people among us who do not have the happiness to know this world in all its beauty. Fedya Churilovalmost became one of them. He was deaf from birth. Thanks to the efforts of the Fund, the Simple Help Foundation and the inflexibility of his parents, the boy was able to regain his hearing.
I met the boy and his parents at the playground. Dad - Sergei rode little Fedya on a swing. The boy was focused and immersed in his thoughts. But at the request of parents: "Say hello to your uncle" - responded. He turned and looked with interest at the incomprehensible uncle. After all, today Fedya is already beginning to know the world through auditory perception, that’s why he responded to his parents’ appeal. And only a year and a half ago, he did not know that there is no life in complete silence. After all, soon after birth, he was diagnosed with sensorineural deafness of 4 degrees.
Lena, Fedi’s mother, remembers that day by minutes. She smiled and looked at her son. Holding the rattle in her hand, Elena shook her, and the room rang. But he did not touch Fedya at all. Mom was worried - she shook the trinkets a few more times, watching the baby’s reaction closely. Fedya didn’t even turn his head, that is, he didn’t even try to look for the source of the sound. Hoping to disprove the terrible conjecture, my mother clapped her hands, turned on the music at maximum volume, turned on the hair dryer, slammed the door. No reaction. Elena understood everything at once.
The parents are already struggling with such a problem - the eldest daughter Dasha has not heard of this world since birth. And, roughly, my mother understood this - at first she noted the lack of reaction to the ringing of toys. Then with all her might, she slammed the lids from the pots over the baby’s ear. The reaction was the same as her brother’s later - zero.
Then the parents coped with the problem on their own. Without waiting for help from the state, Elena and Sergei, on their own and with the help of family and friends, bought their daughter a cochlear implant for hearing aids. Thanks to the operation and constant classes, the girl hears, speaks and studies in a regular school, not in a boarding school. One can guess about a girl’s hearing problems only when she may not hear what she is being told on a noisy street and ask again. Otherwise, she is a completely normal child.
And so the misfortune was repeated, once again, radically changing the life of the family. From that day on, all their activity was focused on giving the Fed the opportunity to hear this world. For two months, Elena and Sergei knocked and thundered near Fedi with various objects, hoping that he would still hear that the deafness is temporary. But, alas, the miracle did not happen. From that moment on, all the family’s efforts were focused on solving the problem. Parents began knocking on all the doors, looking for an opportunity to perform surgery.
The Ufond and the Simple Help Foundation came to their aid. The boy’s parents consulted with specialists from a Turkish clinic and took turns to pay for and perform the operation. On February 14, Fede underwent cochlear implant surgery at the Acibadem Clinic in Turkey. During the operation, my mother was very worried. Although she trusted the doctors, knowing that everything would go well. But still - an operation is an operation. Fortunately, the boy was not separated from his mother for a long time - when anesthesia began, Elena was still nearby. And when the son came to his senses, she was already allowed to be with him.
After the operation, Fedya could not understand the nature of sounds for a long time. Before the operation, he had a hearing aid installed and he knew that sound existed. Only those sounds were very faint and indistinct. Therefore, what the boy heard after the implant was a little shocking. He even shuddered when the implant was first inserted - apparently the tuner made too loud a sound. Upon returning home, the process of rehabilitation and development of hearing skills began. At first his parents accustomed him to the sound of pouring cereals, the rustle of paper. But, really, the kid reacted to the sound of the doorbell. Hearing an unfamiliar sound, Fedya instantly became interested and unmistakably identified the source of the sound. So with the melody of the doorbell, new sensations burst into the boy’s life.
Now, parents need patience, and patience again. You need to deal with Fedya, work, gradually introducing him to the world of sounds, which will give him new opportunities. Fedya will definitely cope with everything. Especially since he is already waking up a real male character.
While we were talking to Elena and Sergei, Fede got tired of the swing, and he dragged Dad to ride the slide. Watching the boy run and frolic, I thought that now his life will be completely different. That he will soon be able to communicate with peers, and most importantly - to voice their thoughts. After all, if the implant had not been placed in time, Fedi would have had problems reproducing the sounds over time - because without hearing them, he would hardly be able to speak.
When I said goodbye to this wonderful family, my parents once again tried to demonstrate their son’s success. And Fedya reacted by waving his hand at me ...
This boy has a whole life ahead of him, filled with a unique palette of sounds. And all this thanks to the indifference of human souls, which helped the boy raise money for surgery.
