Our clinics. Kiev Institute of the Heart

We continue to talk about the clinics where Ufonda’s wards are treated. One of our regular partners is the Kiev Heart Institute. Our cooperation has lasted since 2010. The fund often helps raise funds for the treatment of children with congenital heart disease, including endovascular surgery. During this time we have helped 80 children with heart disease.

The idea of creating a high-level European cardiac surgery clinic was implemented at the Heart Institute in 2007, then the Kiev Heart Center.
For the first time in Ukraine, experts in the field of heart disease prevention, diagnostics, therapy, surgery, anesthesiology and rehabilitation gathered in one clinic. Thanks to a large concentration of knowledge in the field of medicine, the Heart Institute has already made it possible to treat complex heart defects in newborns, as well as successful cardiac surgery up to heart transplantation.
The Heart Institute is designed on the basis of the most modern technical and medical solutions. Built and equipped according to the most modern world standards, the Heart Institute is a pearl of Ukrainian medicine and a source of pride for the people of the country. High-quality equipment allows for full diagnosis and treatment of the most complex heart and vascular defects. More than 5,000 surgeries a year are performed in five modern operating rooms and four angiography laboratories.
The Heart Institute is the only center in Ukraine for surgical treatment of pulmonary embolism and surgery for acute myocardial infarction. In the last few years, a breakthrough has been made in the treatment of ascending aortic aneurysms. In the last year alone, 25 Bentall surgeries have been performed (to dilate the ascending aorta).
The Institute pays special attention to helping young patients. A specialized outpatient department has been set up for children with a capacity of up to 8,500 examinations and consultations per year. The polyclinic is assisted by pediatric cardiac surgeons, pediatric cardiac surgeons and inpatients. With the help of endovascular technologies, specialists perform more than 100 complex operations to treat congenital heart disease every year. This new method avoids slit incision, artificial circulation, and many potent drugs. The cosmetic and psycho-emotional effect of such operations is difficult to overestimate.
The main problem in the treatment of heart disease was and is - funding. Cardiac surgery is very expensive, and public funding is in short supply - it is not enough for everyone. Therefore, patients and parents have to seek help from various authorities, including charitable foundations. In this regard, significant assistance is provided by the Ukrainian Relief Fund.
