Talk about charity

"If you need a helping hand, know - you have it - your own. As you get older, you will realize that you have two hands: one to help yourself, the other to help others. ”© Audrey Hepburn

As every month, we have gathered in our regular column the three most interesting and dissimilar people. Journalist and media expert Svitlana Kolyada, President of the Charitable Foundation Oleksiy Romanets, popular singer and TV presenter Nikita Lomakin. They will share their thoughts with us and answer the following questions: Should only those who have more money help, or should everyone do it? Should others know about your good deeds? How to motivate others to do charity?

Svitlana Kolyada, media expert, journalist, general producer of ZIK TV channel:

Svetlana, what does charity mean to you?

Charity is a need of the heart and soul. When inside each cell responds to the misfortune of another person, an animal. When her difficult story finds a deep response and you can’t sleep, you want to find opportunities and find them to help. Charity is a pure and selfless act of the soul, when you do not think about yourself, but simply sacrifice, give, sometimes the last. Charity is devoid of vanity, profit, pragmatism. This is the highest manifestation of the love that man is endowed with. This is truly a noble state of mind.

Do you think it is worth telling others about your good deeds?

I believe that any good deed should be done quietly and silently. Thereby releasing the right energy into the sky. This is only an internal dialogue between man and the Almighty. I do good quietly. It is devoid of pride.

Who should get the most help? From people with high incomes, or does it matter?

Charity does not have the contours of abundance. It is either there or not. This is the need of the soul, which has nothing to do with the "numbers" that a person earns. More often than not, even low-income people help and donate to charity rather than the wealthy. I observe this in my life. The poorer a person is, the more compassionate he is. She better and deeper understands and feels the pain of another. But it is definitely great when there are financial opportunities for charity. And it is good if a wealthy person has not lost humanity and has a good, sensitive soul and heart. Let the rich donate more.

In your opinion, is it possible to instill in a person a desire to do charity?

My opinion is harsh, a person either has this need or not. Instill a desire? Unlikely. Help look in the direction of charity - yes.

Oleksiy Romanets, President of the Ray of Hope Charitable Foundation:

Oleksiy, what do you invest in such a term as charity?

For me, charity is first and foremost a help. Help for those who need it. To create good, good, and to do it selflessly - this is charity, humanity. This is support and assistance to families, children, the elderly, animals. This is an opportunity to make the world a better place. But I don’t understand those who give away something unnecessary and spoiled, or give away the "I helped" tick, it’s not exactly charity

.

It is very individual. I think it is necessary to tell about it. Of course, I agree that true charity, quiet and sincere, is always done with a pure heart and without expecting you to be entrusted with something in return. When a person does it sincerely, from the heart, it is visible, just as it is visible when a person seeks publicity for his own benefit. This topic needs to be discussed, because it helps to draw everyone’s attention to this problem and show real people who are doing it.

In your opinion, should high-income people help more?

There are millions of people who donate their money to charity. For example, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, and his wife, Priscilla Chan, decided to gradually donate almost all of their wealth to good causes. It is a huge resource that allows thousands and millions of children to live and enjoy life. Of course, people with a lot of money can provide some help, but still, you can not tie charity only to the material side. In general, it would be very good if everyone understood that they can help with the opportunities they have.

What do you think drives people who do charity work and what keeps them from giving up?

There are a lot of people who do not know - how to help, what to help, where to give. Someone wants to join a charity but doesn’t know where to start. Later, a person gets acquainted with someone, finds like-minded people, and then participates in various charitable events, joins charitable organizations and foundations. I think all fears and doubts disappear when a person sees that someone needs his help, when a person feels that it is possible to help, to support that all this is not in vain, and the life of another person depends on it, it raises very much. People see all this and go on, there is a great desire to do good deeds and help. This is very motivating.

Nikita Lomakin, TV presenter, singer:

Nikita, what does charity mean to you?

Charity for me is everything you do for the benefit of others. I believe that everything we do in this life can be directed to other people who need it.

Should a person advertise his charity work?

It all depends on what purpose and message you tell about your activities. For example, if you are a public figure and are an idol for many, then, of course, it is worth advertising. After all, looking at you, many will start to follow your example and will try to do the same, and this will lead to a good result.

Who should help the most, one rich person or dozens of people with a regular income?

Of course, those people who have more financial opportunities are obliged to help in the first place. It’s easier for them than for the middle class.
But in principle, everyone who has money for food, entertainment and recreation, can also make a small contribution.

Is it possible, by your example, to inspire people to do charity work?

I remember a period in my life when I was a fan of Justin Bieber and I read regularly that Justin Bieber donates several million dollars to charity each year. Then I had the idea that when I start earning, I will also make some donations. Again, because he was my idol, I wanted to follow his example. Therefore, I believe that it is possible and necessary to inspire people.
