The goal of hearing aids for children in 2019 has been achieved!
Last year, 95% of children with irreversible hearing impairments who were registered in the queue for surgery and underwent all the preparatory medical procedures received appropriate care. This became possible due to the fact that in 2019 the State Budget of Ukraine allocated UAH 450 million for the purchase of 500 cochlear implants and 224 language processors.
As of January 1, 2019, 367 children were in line for cochlear implants, 348 of which were operated on. Children who were not implanted had contraindications for their current health or did not show up at the time. During 2019, another 150 children were registered in the queue for implantation. They will be operated on as soon as the appropriate preparatory medical procedures are completed. After all, as of January 1, 2020, the Institute of Otolaryngology named after prof. OS Kolomiychenko National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine ", which is the main executor of the program of implantation hearing aids and replacement of the external part of the speech processor, has 163 implants.
In total, in 2019, the Institute purchased 509 cochlear implants and 274 language processors. The number of purchased devices even exceeded the plan due to the savings resulting from the tender procedures.
As for language processors, at the beginning of 2019 there were 198 children in the queue for equipment. But in the end of 2019, 374 children received language processors. Thanks to the use of the remnants of 2018, it was possible to provide speech processors more than half of the 302 children who were in line during 2019.
The State Budget for 2020 also provides for the allocation of 450 million hryvnias for implantation of hearing aids and replacement of the external part of the speech processor, which will fully meet the needs of children in need of appropriate medical care.
