What do you need to know about adoption during martial law?

The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine is actively working to simplify adoption procedures, ensuring the interests of the child. On the air of the nationwide marathon UArazom, Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovich told where those who are seriously considering the possibility of adopting a child should start.

«To begin with, those wishing to adopt a child should apply for consultation through Diya or to the children's service of their region. We have increased the number of trainings for future adopters, because this is an important stage at which a person must understand what he will face and make an informed decision», - said Oksana Zholnovich.

Today, according to her, the current rules of adoption are in force. At the same time, work is underway to simplify the procedures, which will make the process convenient for all participants.

«You always need to take into account the opinion of the child so that he agrees to be in the family. It is also important to provide potential parents who want to adopt her with the opportunity to get to know her. This is a delicate process that is difficult to make remotely. We are working on a format for online communication between potential adopters and children, so that Ukrainians can adopt even those children who have now moved abroad», - the head of the ministry explained.

How to become a candidate for adoption

Spouses or citizens of Ukraine over the age of 21 must submit a written application to the Children's Affairs Service or an electronic application through the Unified State Web Portal of Electronic Services and the information systems integrated with it of the Ministry of Social Policy.

After receiving the application and all documents, the Children's Service checks them for compliance with the requirements of the law. After that, he examines the living conditions of the applicants and draws up the relevant act.

If everything meets the requirements of the legislation, the child affairs worker submits an electronic request to the regional, local center of social services regarding the applicant's completion of a training course on raising orphans and children deprived of parental care.
After that, the children's affairs service prepares a conclusion on the possibility of the applicant or applicants to be adoptive parents. If such a conclusion is positive, the applicant/applicants are registered as potential adopters with their data entered in the Register of Prospective Adopters and the Unified Data Bank.
